The 32nd Annual Art Deco Weekend
January 16–18, 2009
Down Argentine Way: Deco • Vino • Tango
Join us for three days in January 2009, as Art Deco Weekend explores the rich culture of Argentina. Art Deco found a home throughout Argentina, but especially so in the broad
avenues, gracious neighborhoods, and stylish movie palaces of the capitol city of Buenos Aires. The Argentine film industry was in full gear through the 1930s, producing classic films and the world’s first animated features. The sultry forms of the tango, found in elegant milongas and dance halls, became popular worldwide as stylish and sophisticated icons of music and dance. Art Deco may have found its first expression in Paris, France, but in Buenos Aires, the “Paris of the South,” it found a stately and supremely elegant home.
